Abstract: This article proposes a comparative study of the Voyage de Venise by Marot and the Chilias heroica by Forestier. Both written not long after the battle of Agnadello (1509), the Neo-Latin and the vernacular texts share many structural and stylistic devices. These common features testify to the attempt made by both poets to shape the historical account of the victory into an heroic poem, thus evidencing the major contributions Marot and Forestier offered to the renewal of epic writing around 1500.
