Clothes that Travel Well? The Translatability of Allegorical Dress, from the Parement et triomphe des dames to the Triumphe ende’t palleersel van den vrouwen
Abstract: Olivier de la Marche’s Parement et triomphe des dames was adapted twice within two decades: first in an expanded version by Pierre Desrey, then in a Dutch translation of Desrey’s work by the publisher Thomas van der Noot. We examine how far these adaptations update the Parement’s sartorial allegory for new audiences, by considering how they represent garments from the perspective of the history of dress.
