Résumé : In Gli eroi greci, Angelo Brelich dealt with the “heroic phenomenon” from a morphological point of view and as a crossroads between myth and ritual. This paper proposes a similar experiment on the heroes of the medieval French chanson de geste. Some of these characters (Guillaume, Vivien, Renaut) enjoyed a religious cult. Our aim is to show how the hero is not just an epic or literary figure but also an anthropological phenomenon uniting different areas of culture.
