Abstract: When Anne of Brittany miraculously recovered from sickness in 1512, Jean Marot wrote his Prières which, unlike Jean Lemaire de Belges’ XXIIII coupletz, used pathos in order to praise the queen (and not the king or the duchess). This rhetoric of emotion is mimetic of an open expression of people’s concerns and praise, it also enables the poet to present an authentic « mirror » to the queen, on which she can adapt her political action.
