Abstract: The Chanson de la Première Croisade is based on the Latin chronicle of Baudri de Bourgueil. It relates the historical events in a far more accurate manner than the traditional chansons de geste. It shares with them a way of relating battles and individual fights and of presenting protagonists. Its manner of writing the Crusades is also characterized by the marked presence of the Christian and oriental marvelous.
