Abstract:In 1461 and 1468 the official writer George Chastelain staged La Mort du roi Charles VII and La Mort du duc Philippe during the celebrattions for these princes’ heirs. The French play, based on the mystical theory of the Capetian royal blood showing how the deceased duke is mourned by his subjects without any reference to a precise political identity. The theoretical and aesthetic choices made by the playwriter illustrate the way Drama reflected and reshaped the diverse conceptions of the royal body during the 15th century.
