Abstract: This article studies the use made by Pelayo Clairac’s Diccionario general de arquitectura e ingeniería of Cortázar’s works, such as Nuevo método de iluminación en las minas, which he published with A. Gil and became one of the first texts in Spanish to account for electric lamps and associated terms. Comparison with the articles in this dictionary provides solid data on how this and earlier texts were used in Clairac’s dictionary.
