Abstract: The lexicon of chemistry in Spanish was current throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries thanks to translated or original scientific texts, popular science works and dictionaries. This study shows how quickly these terms were taken up in Spanish through texts, and analyses their evolution in the editions of the Real Academia Española dictionary, in the academic and non-academic dictionaries of this period.
