Abstract: This paper contains the edition and a linguistic analysis of a list of words made at the end of the 18th century by an erudite from the Meuse. In order to determine the type of data it contains – first hand? from secondary sources? – we confront it to past and modern documentation. The analysis demonstrates that the data concentrates in a well-defined area, increasing in return the document’s value for our knowledge of the linguistic situation prevailing in Lorraine at that time.
