Abstract: The aim of this paper is to examine the different analyses put forward to account for the properties of the so-called generic sentences, especially when a quantified noun phrase in subject position is considered as the standard case. After evoking the main options usually brought forward, it will consider less common cases such as non-generic NP in subject position and in object position as well. Last, the study of dispositional and habitual sentences shows a close similarity with the genericity of sapiential sentences.
