Abstract: This paper addresses a semantic description of finalement, applying explicit criteria. The aim is to determine the number of semantic entities covered by the lexical entity finalement, as well as the corresponding semantic values. The approach goes beyond the superficial linguistic facts, reaching the deep semantic level. This is made possible thanks to a polyphonic framework that enables a deep characterization of units, using reliable linguistic tests. The study concludes that there are two finalement, characterised by different linguistic properties. The description provides useful data to establish differences with other semantically close units.
