Abstract: A pedagogical dictionary, especially if it includes non-native speakers among its users, should contain all the syntactic information necessary to offer real assistance in the encoding process. This paper aims to contribute to the theoretical development and practical application of this general formulation. In order to attain this goal, I will focus on the lexicographical treatment of rodear verbs (rodear ‘surround’, cubrir ‘cover’, llenar ‘fill’, etc.), which participate in a diathesis alternation accompanied by an aspectual modification. The complex semantics and grammar of these verbs pose problems for both non-native learners of Spanish and lexicographers.
