Abstract: This article aims to chart Nodier’s success in Romantic Poland. The reception of his work evolved during the nineteenth century: after 1830, the kind storyteller and academician enjoyed more favor than the gothic writer and frenetic Romantic. In addition to the survey of translations, adaptations, and criticisms published in the press, the article sets the stage for a study of Nodier’s presence in the works of the “Three Bards” of Polish Romantic literature: Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Słowacki, and Zygmunt Krasiński.
