Abstract: Nodier’s contemporaries were treated to a wealth of dramatic works that were never seen under the footlights, and in many cases were not intended to be, whether they were poems or even plays. This paradox of theater without the stage, which nevertheless is a part of the history of theater, invites us to question the thus revealed potentialities of the dramatic genre and the virtues of the spectacle of words.
