Abstract: This text highlights the characteristics of Charles Nodier's critique fantaisie. Irony, digressions and dialogism are among the means that he used to revise the codes underpinning the format of the serial. Fantasy-writing displays the meandering way in which it was enunciated; the constant use of derision and eccentricity creates a relationship of complicity with the reader and allows Nodier to develop a zany critical ethos—in the image of Yorick.
