Abstract: This article explores the hypothesis that Dumas constructs in his novels an idea of social and racial equality that is nourished by a monogenist vision of man and “races”. If the differences between men are, for Dumas, due to chance, circumstances and climate, he emphasises that men of different origins can easily coexist: mixing, hybridisation is an asset for him.
