Abstract: The figure of the musketeer has had a lasting effect on the codification of the representation of the French-style hero, the means by which the historical novel in the nineteenth century posed the problem of historical continuity and the relationship with tradition. In this way, this heroic figure embodies the survival after the Revolution of an aristocratic logic of honor, now associated with common qualities.
