Abstract: Without being a specialist, Claudel has always paid attention to economic issues. In his numerous articles in the post-war Le Figaro and Le Figarolittéraire, he argued against nationalization and for the freedom of enterprise. He justified the notion of profit as the essential motor of human activity, and insisted on cooperation (food and industrial cooperatives) as an instrument of diffusion and manifestation of an economic, social and religious ideal.
