Abstract: Numerous translations of the Essays by Michel de Montaigne have been published in South Korea since 1962, but only two of them translate the full work. The 1965 one is a late legacy of a troubled history, twenty years after the renewed independence. Thanks in part to the specific situation of the South Korean edition world, its cultural significance will remain until the publication of the second full translation in 2022. This last one indicates the progress of local French studies.
