Abstract: This paper examines the influence of Michel de Montaigne on contemporary Spanish narrative through the work of two authors: Enrique Vila-Matas and Iñaki Uriarte. In both narrative productions, the analysis of Montaigne's presence -through the Essays, but also through his Traveldiary- sheds light on his own nature, from a perspective hardly treated in the studies on these authors. At the same time, this influence allows us to understand the relevance of Montaigne in the Spanish literature of the 21st century.
