Abstract: The aim of this writing is to propose a commentary on a passage of “Raimond Sebond's Apology”. Montaigne responds to the usefulness of philosophy in its attempt to provide weapons to support the vicissitudes of existence. He valorises oblivion more than memory, ignorance more than science showing that it is possible to deduce a new way of good living... and therefore of philosophizing. Our commentary exposes the modification of the sources -old and contemporary- of Montaigne's arguments.
