Abstract: In 2013, the Bobigny High Court ordered the removal of fifteen passages from Le Salut par les Juifs, edited by Alain Soral, for abuse and incitement to racial hatred. An appendix reproduces the excerpts that were prosecuted and their legal qualifications. The court’s reading proves to be approximate, fragmented, narrowly literal, and without consideration for figures of speech (notably rhetorical concession and irony). One crucial antithesis in particular is ignored: the association of ignominy with the divine.
