Abstract: Did the discovery of America harm or benefit humankind? This collection of texts can be boiled down to two contradictory visions of the New World: an America where the worst aspects of pro-slavery Europe are clear to see; and a reinvigorated America that has successfully established the constitutional utopia of a harmonious republic.
