Abstract: Agrippa d’Aubigné’s Les Avantures du Baron de Fæneste (1617–1630) is a collection of anecdotes from the history of the era that focus on the Baron, a soldier and failed courtier. Surprisingly, the fantasy dedramatizes the abominable, in a narrative and dialogical patchwork that has an uplifting yet vengeful flair.
