Abstract: European feminist thinkers have often been criticised for grafting home-grown models of feminine subjectivity onto women of different cultures. This article explores feminine resistance in the work of Assia Djebar through two figures emerging from her Islamic cultural heritage, which serve as examples of alternative to those imposed by European thought.
