Abstract: A posthumous treatise by Guez de Balzac, Aristippe ou de la Cour(1658), paints satirical portraits of incompetent advisors in seven fictitious speeches. Widely translated and disseminated in Europe in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it marks the culmination of a political reflection on prudence and a historiographical meditation on Tacitism.
