Abstract: This article aims to show how, in the thought of Élisée Reclus, human ways of life must be understood in the light of the animal manifestations of life. For the geographer, the affiliations that we can establish with the different forms of the animal life give us a particular responsibility towards all fauna, which must be associated to any work liberation to which human societies aspire.
