Abstract: In his literary works, Imre Kertész reveals how totalitarianism opposes four metaphysical targets. Three relate to the individual life (temporality; fate and narrativity; search for the meaning of life), while the fourth deals with social life (societal morality). In each case, the influence of Kafka is felt.
