Abstract: The Syrian filmmaker Khaled Abdulwahed defies with his docufiction Backyard (2018, 26’) the power of destruction of Bachar al-Assad regime, making a sharp interpretation of the disaster his country faces from 2011. He engages in a deconstruction and reconstruction process of an archive image showing a landscape with cactuses, a symbol of tenacity and patience.
