Abstract: Jón Kalman Stefánsson’s novels highlight a tireless quest for the past and nostalgia. Not being material objects, the vestiges of the past remain dependent on fragile consciences, subject to disappearing with death. Duration joins the existential crisis to become a narrative object, capable of bringing to light the diffracted consciousness of the fictional character.
