Abstract: Studying Sous le soleil de Satan, Georges Bernanos’ novel, leads us into the vast ocean of evil and the dark corner of guilt. From its collusion with the myth of Œdipus via its proximity with monotheistic religion and its modern metamorphoses, guilt, that hassling hydra lurking about the depths of the human conscience which is at the source of civilization, constantly regenerates itself and, thanks to its abysmal gleam, mesmerizes and fascinates our mind.
