Abstract: The introduction to this volume recalls the questions that prompted the symposium from which the various contributions are drawn. Using the example of Aubigné leaving France in 1620, it sets out the overall approach of this collective volume. It examines the way in which the humanists’geographical displacements, whether voluntary or involuntary, led them to reconfigure their intellectual, spiritual and professional identities.
