Abstract: This article examines the Octonaires de la vanité et inconstance du monde by Antoine de Chandieu in light of the Neostoicism of the court of Henri IV. The poetry of the Octonaires and the music of Claude Le Jeune illustrate a Stoic program of meditation on death and vanity with the aim of managing destructive emotions and bringing the kingdom back into tranquil order.
