Abstract: Politics is a recurring motif in Les Soleils des Indépendances. To a certain extent it can be said to be the back drop of the narrative. How does story telling take the political dimension into account ? How does poetics reflect politics? By resorting to humour, which provides critical detachment, in the aftermath of Independence, Kourouma did a brilliant job of narrating the shattered hope for a better life which anti-colonial struggles had raised.
