Sartre, in his Critique de la raison dialectique, and Lukács, in his Ontologie de l’être social, examine the concept of « process » in order to lay the foundation for the possibility of a knowledge of history in accordance with historical materialism, while criticizing the Stalinian and teleological conceptions of history. By linking together process, praxis and history, they produce the conceptual means for a description of social phenomena which renders their complexity.
