Digital technology now facilitates the expropriation of individuals’ data by large private and public organizations. This phenomenon contributes to the violation of the principles of informational self-determination recognized by the law. It may undermine the functioning of democracy. Only consent-based Big Data projects could satisfy a minimum democratic requirement.
