This paper looks at the February 2018 iteration of the Final Girls Berlin Film Festival and one film screened there in particular, Deborah Haywood’s Pin Cushion (2017), in order to challenge the tendency among film critics and filmmakers to “elevate” formally innovative films out of the horror genre.
