Translating French political speech in the Gaceta de Madrid after the July Revolution of 1830

This article questions the method of translation adopted by the Gaceta de Madrid to give a full account of two French political speeches given at the House of Deputies a few days after the French riots in July 1830 and incorporated in the Moniteur Universel. A comparative analysis of the source and target texts provides us here with a better understanding of the issues involving the translation of political speeches at a turning point in the history of France and Europe.
