L’intégration du créole chagossien dans un contexte français (roman) ou anglais (scénario)

Within the framework of a research project into the Chagossian refugees who were displaced between 1968 to 1973 from the Chagos Archipelago to Mauritius, the article explores the possibilities of transposing a French novel into an English screenplay by moving from a written language to the oral language of the slaves in Creole, leaving the text in Creole, translating it using subtitles, or deciding not to translate such terms in order to keep their exotic impact. The other option was the ‘scenarization’ of the passage in the form of the equivalent of a cinéma vérité documentary that would render the cultural aspects of the lexeme itself.
