The aim of this paper is to reflect upon the translation of diatopic varieties. We will examine the French translation of an Italian contemporary novel, La Vedova scalza by Salvatore Niffoi (2006, translated in 2012), which is characterized by a mixture of Italian and Sardinian language. Our analysis will show how the translation made by Dominique Vittoz is able to give life to a new langage, perfectly suited to Niffoi’s style.
