This correspondence initiated by Paula Grieder includes forty-three letters, drafts, postcards, telegrams, etc. The letters, mainly written by Blaise Cendrars, bear witness to an intriguing relationship with an “anonymous” reader who reads passionately and, beyond the writer’s work, wants to decipher the man and his ambiguities. The exchange is also at the heart of Cendrars’ dark years, between 1937 and 1941, marked by the departure of Raymone and the beginning of the period when the wellspring of his writing dried up.
