Classical Greece condemns incest, and the figure of Oedipus, an incestuous son, bears witness to this. To define this prohibition in classical Athens, one must study texts written in Greek. We measure, then, to what extent the categories of yesteryear are different from ours. Incest is first and foremost a gamos anosios, an unholy union.
