Rewriting “Oceano Nox”, “La fin” presents itself as a polemical response to Hugo, in which Corbière plays ironically on the speaking voice, lexis and prosody. However, the romantic seer is not his only target: Tristan is writing with the author of Le Négrier at his elbow, and like him he battles against linguistic radicalism; but, being above all a poet, he seeks another language, free of literary models and the paternal example, but without denying what he owes to both of these.
