Parody, satiric ritual, and joyful culture in the quarrel between Marot and Sagon (1534–1538)

The quarrel between Marot and Sagon (1534-1538) demonstrates how parody can affect models of polemic exchange, giving way to a new kind of sociability that connects contemporary authors. Although applied for strategic purposes, parody rapidly evolves into a principle of poetic continuation. Still, the texts produced by the quarrelling poets present us with a problematic reception of parodic literature, questioning the connections between festivities, satire and controversy in public space.
