Justice in the Abbeys of Misrule Sixteenth–eighteenth centuries, Dauphiné, Lyonnais, and Savoie

In the sixteenth century, the abbeys of Misrule performed a form of justice concerning questions of marriage and marriage life, which was supported by all. This parodic justice adequately followed the titles and procedures of state-controlled justice. For a long time, lawyers have contributed to the recognition of this abbatial justice before combatting it by occasionally reusing the punishment of donkey riding.
