Baudelaire discovers the baroque art on the occasion of his stay in Belgium. He tries then to define what he calls the jesuitical style: he does it underling the contrast between death and life and observes the presence of the theatricality in the baroque architecture. Further affinities could have formerly come up between the poetry of Fleurs du Mal and the poets of the baroque time.
