  • Abstract: At the end of the 1830s, Édouard Ourliac provides the Journal des enfants with a series of dramatic plays that will become the Théâtre du Seigneur Croquignole. Far from the pedagogical tradition of Mme de Genlis, Ourliac offers his audience original and fantastic scenes whose comic power and colorful nature undermine any moralistic and educational aim. Here we witness the founding of one of the first youth theaters, able to reach both children and their parents.
