1925 was the year Claudel and Gide met for the last time. After the sharp altercation sparked off by Gide’s admission of his homosexuality, when his novel Les Caves du Vatican was published, the relationship between the two men started again on an intermittent basis, and was the prelude to a formal meeting in 1925. During that meeting the confirmation of Gide’s moral ideal, which was a long way from the Christian spirit, caused a final and irreversible rupture with Claudel
