Claudel’s letters to Abbé Combes recently turned up. They shed light on the poet’s whimsical attitude when asked to give a lecture at the Paris Institut Catholique. They also show how enthusiastic he was about biblical and patristic matters, though not very keen on mystical experience. They usefully complete an up to now single-track correspondence.
