The wise man resting on the soft pillow of ignorance A figure of the skeptical philosopher

Does the figure of the “ignorant wise man” in Montaigne’s Essais coincide with that described by Socrates? Is it actually built on the wisdom of simple men? Or perhaps the “ignorant wise man” is a product of a modernized form of skeptical ethics. This paper aims to show how the “good head” resting on the soft pillow of ignorance and incuriosity is both a figure of the skeptical philosopher and the “ignorant wise man.”
